Statement of African Environmental Journalists

The planet's future is cause for alarm because her ecosystems are in danger. Never before has life on earth been so seriously threatened.
It's in these times that journalists have a central and decisive role to play, sensitising, educating, watching over: in brief, highlighting for governments and their peoples the way forward for better environmental accountability. It's our role, it's our duty and we do not have any other choice but to harness ourselves to this noble mission – failing which, we'll be called to task before History's Tribunal for “non-assistance to a planet in danger”.

L'avenir de la planète fait peur puisque les éco systèmes sont en danger. La vie sur terre n'a jamais été aussi sérieusement hypothéquée.
Dans ces conditions, les journalistes ont un rôle central, déterminant, celui de sensibiliser, éduquer, veiller aussi, bref, baliser pour les gouvernants et pour les gouvernés, le chemin pour une meilleure prise en compte de l'Environnement. C'est notre rôle, c'est notre devoir et nous n'avons d'autre choix que de nous atteler à cette noble mission. Sous peine d'être demain condamnés devant le tribunal de l'Histoire pour “non-assistance à une planète en danger”.
