Please scroll down for examples

Investment

Commissioned article for Business Day Online
Brief: Investigate viability of fractional ownership as an investment.

BDHF Fractional Ownership

Business

Commissioned article for UK magazine, ESCAPE
Brief: Inform continental investors, looking for secondary homes in the sun, of opportunities in the Capetonian property market.

Engineering

Series of newsletter articles
Brief: write a series of concise articles on engineering company's international activities, paraphrased from technical documents and present the same in a language accessible to non-techies.

Oil-free bearings: A new “TRANE” of thought

Most refrigeration chillers have complicated oil distribution systems. By thinking outside of the box, Trane engineers realised that if they could eradicate this oil system, they'd be eliminating potential refrigerant leakages that could occur via the system's weak points.

Environment

Article for CEO magazine
Brief: Write an article on corporate responsibility on behalf of CEO.

From Green to Gold

Protecting the company's bottom line is as important as protecting the environment, yet the two needn't be mutually exclusive. In fact, what was until recently seen as a mere PR exercise is starting to make good business sense. The environmentalist movement, kick-started by Rachel Carson's book Silent Spring almost half a century ago, has finally resulted in eco-awareness reaching critical mass at consumer and government levels, championed by the likes of Al Gore.

Esoteric

Specialist column for CHI magazine
Brief: As commissioned columnist, write regular column on ancient runes and their symbolism.

Food & Wine

Letter to editor of WINE magazine
Brief: Write a letter regarding the rating of wine and, although a serious pitch, discuss the subject with a tongue-in-cheek tone. Was the monthly winning letter.

Star Wars… & Cloud Nine

Wine drinkers can typically be grouped into two categories: Those that are fanatical believers in wine ratings - stars, awards and achievements, and secondly, those who enjoy drinking wine for the pure hedonistic pleasure.

Health

Article for men’s health and fitness magazine
Brief: Top twenty tips on fitness and peak physical performance.

Fast-tracking a Better Body

Fast-tracking your way to a fit physique requires total commitment, but once you've decided to fully own your body and have shifted your awareness and focus towards that goal, you're already half way there. The tips and short cuts in this article are gleaned from a year of tried and tested research and practice. Hot-foot your way to greater shape, whether you're 20, 30, 40 or even 50 and beyond.

Lifestyle

Personality insight
Brief: Write a light-hearted article on founders of an online wine boutique, with the accent on the personalities rather than the business.

A Life Uncorked

Gavin Ford meets with an exceptional Capetonian couple who share their secrets about the art of living.

Article for SAWUBONA magazine
Brief: Write an article to attract visitors to Camps Bay during the winter season.

Camps Bay: Another perfect day in paradise?

The mention of Camps Bay always elicits a glazed, dreamy look. Just talking about this leading South African coastal destination, outside Cape Town, fills your senses with images of a pristine sandy-white beach, stately palm-trees ruffled by the breeze, an ocean that's so turquoise it's startling; equally gorgeous bodies in designer swimwear, and magnificent villas for the privileged few. International visitors rightfully consider it to be one of the most perfect stretches of beach in the world. Yet despite a perceived aura of exclusivity, it's a playground for local residents too, irrespective of colour or creed.

Nutrition

Advertorial
Brief: Write an article promoting vitamin supplementation, backed by scientific findings, as a healthy lifestyle option accessible to a wide audience i.t.o. age.

Can food alone guarantee good health?
(This most likely affects you…)

Forty-year studies in both the USA and UK revealed that since the 1950's there's been a major decline in the nutrient value of fruit and vegetables. So it's not surprising that an article in the 2002 Journal of the American Medical Association made a landmark recommendation that all adults should take vitamin supplements over and above eating a healthy balanced diet, to remain in peak health condition.
